Travelling or being on holiday is a disruption to your usual diet and exercise routine, but you can still enjoy your break without gaining weight!
No matter where you go or how you get there, it really helps if you’re well prepared. Aim to stick to your usual routines as much as you can and/or follow the tips below.
– Skip the road food
If travelling by car, pack healthy meals and/or snacks. Ideally, don’t leave the house until you’ve eaten or if you’re in a rush, take a meal replacement bar (such as Herbalife Formula 1 Express Bars) or Herbalife Protein Bar with you so you’ll be less tempted to pick up fast food on the way. Other easy-to-pack foods such as fruit, nuts or soy nuts, string cheese and baby carrots are good snacks for road trips or flights.
– At the airport…
Finding healthy items at the airport can be a challenge. You should be able to find fruit, yogurt, salads or sandwiches, but packing your own food will save you calories and cash. When flights are delayed, use the time to walk around in the terminal rather than letting the restaurants and snack shops beckon. At some large airports, you can easily log a mile or more by walking back and forth along the concourses.
Staying hydrated, especially if you’re flying, is important, but watch out for liquid calories. If you’re drinking lots of fizzy drinks or cocktails, you’ll quickly rack up the calories so stick to water or a healthy addition to water such as Herbal Aloe Concentrate, Instant Herbal Beverage or LiftOff instead.
– Staying at a hotel?
When you arrive at the hotel, you’ll likely be suffering from a combination of fatigue coupled with tempting foods from the happy hour buffets or room service. Rather than using food as a pick-me-up, try taking a walk or hit the hotel gym after you get settled.
Many hotel rooms have refrigerators so pick up some fresh fruits, cut vegetables or yogurt for snacks throughout your holiday. And don’t forget milk so you can whip up a Formula 1 shake in your room.
Watch your calories at hotels that offer complimentary breakfast or buffet breakfast as it can be tempting to overeat when you’re not paying for food items. Be on the lookout for fresh fruit, and some protein in the form of hard-boiled eggs or yogurt. As for dining out, ask hotel staff about healthy restaurant options in the area where you’re likely to find the foods you generally eat.
